BE IT REMEMBERED, that the White County Commissioners held a regular meeting on Monday, July 6, 2009, in the White County Building, 2nd floor, Commissioners’ conference room.

Commissioners present were: President John C. Heimlich, Vice President Steve Burton, and Commissioner Ron Schmierer. Also present was the White County Attorney George Loy, White County Auditor Jill Guingrich, and Commissioners’ Secretary Donya Tirpak.

Commissioner Heimlich called the meeting to order.

MINUTES

  • Commissioner Schmierer made a motion to approve the minutes as presented for the regular meeting on June 22, 2009, seconded by Commissioner Burton. Vote: Unanimous

PAYROLL

  • Commissioner Burton made a motion to approve the payroll as presented for July 6, 2009, seconded by Commissioner Schmierer. Vote: Unanimous

CLAIMS

  • Commissioner Burton made a motion to allow and pay the claims as advertised, seconded by Commissioner Schmierer. Vote: Unanimous

NORWAY BRIDGE

Don Ward, County Engineer, updated the commissioners on the repairs of the Norway Damn bridge. Mr. Ward commented that the two floods took away a lot of the embankment. He presented a breakdown of extra cost and some savings where things were not needed. The additional cost to date will be $4,335. He reported that R & W Contracting, out of West Lafayette, are doing a great job and he felt that it was looking good.

Mr. Ward also presented Addendum No. 1 requesting a $3,000 increase in the Construction Engineering Contract. This contract is between the county and Donald W. Ward.

Mr. Ward said that the original construction cost was $60,800 and this money will be reimbursed by FEMA.

  • Commissioner Burton made a motion to accept Addendum #1 for an additional $3,000 for the Construction Engineer Contract with Donald W. Ward for the Norway Bridge project, seconded by Commissioner Schmierer. Vote: Unanimous

CLAIMS

Auditor Jill Guingrich explained that effective July 1, 2009, State Board of Accounts said that with the exception of the claims from the courts, other departments’ claims no longer have to be advertised.

Since the advertising is not required, Auditor Guingrich asked the Commissioners’ permission to amend the claim schedule for 2009, which will allow her to process claims twice a month instead of once.

  • Commissioner Burton made a motion to amend the claim schedule so claims will be paid twice a month instead of once a month; now until the end of the year, and a claims report must be given the Thursday before they are paid on Monday, seconded by Commissioner Schmierer. Vote: Unanimous

LAKEVIEW HOME

Commissioner Schmierer asked the commissioners if a public hearing should be held to inform the public of what they are going to do with the home.

Commissioner Heimlich also suggested communicating with the council on what’s going on because budget hearings are approaching soon.

There being no further business to come before the board, their meeting was adjourned.
