BE IT REMEMBERED that a regular meeting of the White County Council was held at the White County Building at Monticello at 9:00 A.M. on April 18, 2005 for the purpose of discussing the additional appropriations and other business that might come before the membership.

Council President, James Mann, called the Council meeting to order in joint session with the Commissioners. The following members were present:

MINUTES

Councilman Carter made a motion to approve the minutes of March 21, 2005. Councilman Horton seconded the motion.

ACCUVOTE OPTICAL SCAN VOTING

Councilwoman Lowring questioned why a representative of the Fidlar Corporation was not at the joint meeting as was requested in the March Council meeting. Councilman Mann asked that Secretary Nydegger ask a representative come to attend the May meeting.

ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATIONS

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE county Council of White County, Indiana that for the expenses of said Municipal Corporation the following additional sums of money are hereby appropriated and set apart out of the fund herein specified and subject to the laws governing the same.

Councilman Horton made a motion to approve an Additional Appropriation for the Highway Department of $839,863.91. Councilman Cain seconded the motion.

The following transfer was received:

Councilwoman Lowring made a motion to approve the above transfer. Councilman Cain seconded the motion.

HEALTH INSURANCE – ELECTED OFFICIALS

Citizen Joe Maudlin suggested that the Council consider making an option for Council members to purchase their own health insurance through the County’s group plan. The Countys’ portion of the County employees’ health insurance is $753.00 per month for a family. Councilman Horton stated that he would be in favor of changes in August. There are standard federal laws to look over when making considerations about insurance for part-time employees stated Councilman Schmierer. Councilman Mann assured Mr. Maudlin that, although the Council was not ready at this time to take a vote, they would have further discussion and attend to this issue at the budget meetings in August.

TAX RATES FOR 2004 PAY 2005

Auditor Pool passed out the County 2004 pay 2005 Tax Rate sheets for Council members to be informed. She made special note of the higher rate in Big Creek township and also those feeding into the Frontier School District. She made phone calls to the state to check on the legality of the high rate. They are as stands. However, she mentioned that last year the rate was low.

APPRECIATION GIVEN

Councilman Mann presented a card of appreciation on behalf of the Council to Secretary Jo Ann Curtis for her years of dedicated service. Mrs. Curtis will be retiring on May 6, 2005.

ADOURNMENT

There being no more business to come before the Council, Councilman Crabb made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Carter seconded the motion.
