BE IT REMEMBERED that the White County Commissioners held a special meeting on Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at 8:00 a.m. at the White County Courthouse on the 2nd floor of the Commissioners’ Chambers.


Commissioners’ present was President John C. Heimlich, Vice President Steve Burton, and Member O.D. “Bud” Ferguson. Also present was White County Auditor Mary Jo Pool and the Commissioners’ Secretary Donya Tirpak.


Commissioner Heimlich called the meeting to order.



  • Commissioner Burton made a motion to approve the claims as advertised for December 27, 2006, seconded by Commissioner Ferguson. Vote: Unanimous


  • Commissioner Ferguson made a motion to approve the payroll as advertised for December 28, 2006, seconded by Commissioner Burton. Vote: Unanimous


Commissioner Heimlich said that the County Highway Superintendent Steve Brooke has had time to look over the submitted bids for the Highway Supplies for 2007.


Highway Superintendent Steve Brooke made the recommendation to the Commissioners to accept all of the bids that were submitted.


  • Commissioner Burton made a motion to approve and accept all of the bids submitted for the Highway Department Supplies for 2007, seconded by Commissioner Ferguson. Vote: Unanimous

  • Commissioner Ferguson made a motion to approve the appointments for 2007 as presented, seconded by Commissioner Burton. Vote: Unanimous


Twin Lakes Regional Sewer Board member Art Anderson appeared before the Commissioners asking permission to keep the sewer district employees (10 in all) on the county’s insurance. The sewer board members have decided to hire an outside company to process their payroll but they would like to continue the county carrying the insurance for them.


Commissioner Heimlich did talk with the county’s consultant, Amy Carpenter, and she did say that there are cases of groups being on the same health insurance but payroll is separate. He said that she also mentioned that Lafayette and West Lafayette are pulling together for insurance.


After a long discussion, Commissioner Heimlich said that the Commissioners do not have a problem keeping them on the insurance plan, only if it doesn’t have to continue to be administered through the Auditor’s office. If there is a way that the Sewer District can administer all of the paperwork such as Arnett sending them their own bill, they write a check to the county, and all we have to do is mail it out, then the Commissioners are all for it.


Commissioner Heimlich said that these questions need to be discussed with the consultant and he should have an answer by the next meeting on Tuesday, November 2.


There being no further business to come before the Commissioners, their meeting was adjourned.
