Commissioner Heimlich said that consideration of an amendment to the White County Zoning Ordinance was presented two weeks ago. The proposed amendment will change the definition of a Front Lot Line, Front Yard, and Yard.

Commissioner Heimlich asked White County Attorney George Loy if he has discussed the amendment with Cynthia Bowen. Attorney Loy said that he has not had a chance to discuss it with her and would like more time to get her recommendation. Commissioner Heimlich said that HNTB is a company from Indianapolis that is rewriting the County’s Ordinances.

  • Commissioner Burton made a motion to table consideration to the amendment for the White County Zoning Ordinance, seconded by Commissioner Ferguson. Vote: Unanimous

INFORMATION BOOTH

Councilman Ronald Schmierer attended the Commissioners’ meeting discussing the Information Booth located on 6th Street. Councilman Schmierer presented a brochure showing a revolving brochure display rack that he recommends the county should buy and place in local businesses. He suggested buying ten at the cost of $85.00 each. The Commissioners gave Councilman Schmierer permission to purchase the racks and place them in local businesses.

Councilman Schmierer also discussed purchasing a new cabin, similar to those at the North Indiana Beach Campground, to replace the trailer used last year for the Information Booth. The new cabin will be around 10 foot by 12.5 foot and the cost will be around $9,000. By the time the sewer and water lines are installed the cost could be as much as $15,000. The Commissioners gave Councilman Schmierer permission to move forward with the project.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Commissioner Heimlich said that he has met with Lynn Deno, President of the Chamber of Commerce, discussing their web site. The County covers the cost to have their web page updated. The Chamber has not been satisfied with the provider’s service, which is from New Mexico. The Chamber needs to find out who owns the domain name. The Chamber would like to have a site where they could make the updates as needed.

Commissioner Burton said that since there is so much effort going into the County’s web site, he would like to see the investment that is being used on the Chamber to be spent on expanding the County’s web site.

Commissioner Heimlich said that a link on the County’s web site could be added but having a tourism web site would be a great value to the Chamber, all depending on the cost.

WHITE COUNTY RECYCLE

White County Recycling Director Dawn Gerard appeared before the Commissioners saying that she has ordered the new bailer and it should be in around April 7th. She has received fifty percent of the grant funds from IDEM. She also reported that she has hired a new part-time person that will work three days a week.

Commissioner Burton presented estimates on having a cement floor put in the new storage building at the Sheriff’s Dept. Two estimates were submitted from the following:

ADB Construction, Brookston $ 2,908.00

Wrede & Sons Excavating, Inc., Monticello $ 2,977.00

  • Commissioner Ferguson made a motion to accept the low bid from ADB Construction for $2,908.00, seconded by Commissioner Burton. Vote: Unanimous
