Commissioner Heimlich commented that they will have to make sure that they comply with the statute which states the following:

1:   A simple majority (which is 3 if there is a 5 member board) of the members must be engaged in the convention or tourism business, involved in promoting conventions, visitors or tourism, or involved in developing economic development in the county.

Larry Sanson, Retired Veteran Volunteer, said that he is working with the Historical Society, Judy Baker, trying to put identity markers on unmarked Civil War Veterans tombstones.  He is currently working with the county cemeteries and putting together a count of unmarked veterans and he thinks that they will need approximately 150.   Mr. Sanson requested the Commissioners to help with the cost of these markers.  The cost could be around $2,000.

Mr. Sanson said that they can’t receive any financial assistance from the Veteran’s office because the Veteran’s Administration wasn’t established until 1920.

Commissioner Heimlich said that they will take this under advisement and talk to Tom Carter, White County Veteran’s Director, and Judy Baker at the Historical Society to get more information.

There being no further business to come before the board, their business was adjourned.
